Great new brand launch of Sleepy Jones from our friends over at Partners and Spade.
Congratulations guys – you just solved my Mother’s day present dilemma.
Our first ever collaboration on a Kickstarter project just went live. We’ve been working with Dylan Mishan, a young inventor/entrepreneur for the last couple of years to help him develop the Lynx cleaning dock. In a nutshell it’s a modular cleaning system which comprises of one pole plus multiple cleaning heads all housed in a teeny, tiny stand which takes up hardly any space in your closet. The magic moment in the project was when we developed a new quick connect mechanism which allows you to easily add or remove a cleaning head without having to touch it or bend over. Check out the video on the kickstarter site to see it in action.
Dylan’s a great guy who really believes in this project and I really hope he gets the backing he’s looking for – so go on over and give him a pledge.
Now that the power is back on for many of us in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy we find ourselves faced with another common problem – how to reset the blinking digital clocks all around our homes ?
We’d been thinking about this issue before the storm but it seems even more pertinent now, especially today where we all have to remember to put our clocks back an hour because of the end of Daylight Savings Time.
Many user interfaces gravitate towards a standardized, if not official, solution – think of music players where a square signify’s stop, 2 dashes mean pause, 2 arrows mean fast forward or skip. This interface has survived the leap from a physical interface (buttons on a CD player) to a graphic interface (the on-screen controls of iTunes or Pandora).
Why hasn’t this convergence happened with the simple action of setting the time of a digital clock ? We decided to do some investigation….. Read more…
Via @fastcodesign comes this article on Andrew Kim’s re-design of the entire Microsoft brand. Very thoughtful. Got to believe he’ll be snapped up for a job in a second …… if he hasn’t been already.
The Blog’s been a little quiet recently due in no small part to all the excitement of Euro2012 and with the Tour de France starting this weekend that’s probably not going to change too much for the next month ! However this launch is worth sharing. IDSANY launched their site Sparkin60.com yesterday featuring 60 second soundbites from a range of New York creatives talking about inspiration, objects…just about anything. Well worth checking out.
Full disclosure, I’m on the site too – you can catch my soundbite here. Big, big thanks to Sean for the judicious editing.
I’m loving the letschipit tool from Sherwin Williams. It allows you to link to any image and then provides you with a color palette based upon Sherwin Williams paint colors. Great for moodboards.
So the New York design week hit town again on what was a gorgeous Spring weekend (which kept the crowds at the ICFF manageable). Many other sites will be giving comprehensive overviews so I thought I’d just mention a couple of things which stood out for me.
First up was the Beautiful hand-crafted tea canisters from Kaikado. The simplicity and quality of craftsmanship of these were superb. I wasn’t aware of the company before but here’s a link to their website.
Next, I know it’s not new – in fact in won a Red Dot award in 2011, but this was the first time I’d seen the X-Plus table by Shi Xiaioxi in person and it’s a lot more poetic and approachable than the photo’s I’d previously seen would have led me to believe. Great work for a young designer.
Finally, on the subject of young designers, the collaboration between Alessi and Cranbrook students which is on show at the Alessi showroom on Greene Street was very interesting. To me the work by Adam Shirley was a standout.
