10/17/11Seems like we have our very own protest movement here on West 39th Street, complete with inflatable rat. It’s aimed at the Westin Element hotel next door. It’s pretty much a standard Union protest saying some of the workers are being exploited and underpaid. Whilst I can certainly sympathize with that, in my mind the biggest crime at that hotel is the hideous architecture.
Oh, and the constant whistling is starting to get really annoying – which I suppose is the point.
Wacom Inkling – Yes Please !

I have an inkling that if this product lives up to hype it could be great and I’m certainly going to try one out when it launches. The killer feature for me is that it claims to allow you to create layers in your sketches and then export to Photoshop or Illustrator. This could be a huge timesaver when knocking out iterations of a concept with different details etc.. We use Wacom tablets in the office all the time but I love the idea that I can sketch in my trusty Moleskin and then not have to redraw everything. Wonder if it will have handwriting recognition – that would be handy too.
I’ll be back with a review once I get my hands on one.
Chicago Wildfire…barely spark’s
03/06/11My first night in Chicago for the Housewares show and one of the usual treats for me is getting to go for a bit of a self-indulgent dinner – after all Chicago is known for great food. Tonight I fancied steak so I thought I’d try Wildfire Grill. This is one of the Lettuce Entertain You group restaurants which I’ve been a fan of ever since I went to Scoozi many years ago. Wildfire was not that far from my hotel and was voted most popular restaurant in Chicago from Zagat in 2008, 2009 and 2010 so I figured it was a decent bet …..
……….Well, I was wrong.
