Joshi A Leg to Stand On
When we were contacted by ALTSO, the team at Prime Studio was immediately excited to join their mission of bringing free orthopedic care to amputees and help provide high-quality and more modern prosthetic choices. The more we learned about their mission, the more our team pushed to create an equally modern, cost-effective, sustainable packaging solution...... And we decided to not charge them a penny.
Our design mission was to create a packaging design that could be used by anyone, from line packers in India, to transport carriers and local buggies, to medical staff. We aimed to break language barriers by using icon-based graphics and applied thoughtful structural design to track Joshi’s journey, streamline inventory and easily scale distribution to help Joshi reach children worldwide.
The “Joshi”, named after its inventor Dr. Dhiren Joshi, is distributed to clinics in 6 countries, and is continuously refitted through use as the child grows. Keeping this in mind, the packaging was designed to be durable and protective during transport, sustainable for reuse and recycling, efficient for assembly, shipping and stackable for a minimal footprint to decrease warehouse and inventory costs.
The modular packaging, was designed to house both children and adult Joshi models, and has interchangeable interiors to cater to both the Below-The-Knee and Above-The-Knee sizes.
More than contributing a packaging design, we aimed to create a thoughtful system to bring freedom of #mobility for access to education, empowerment for independence and employment through self-sufficiency and self-esteem, hope for the future through inspiration and an overall more dignified life
